MSNBC showed footage of what appears to be a "sleepy" Joe Biden during the UN climate conference held in Glasgow, Scotland, with a reporter suggesting that "it appears that perhaps he was dozing."

Correspondent Kelly O'Donnell was reporting live on location from the nearby city of  Edinburgh, Scotland, when she was asked about the potential ramifications of the video:

"This is the fifth day of the president's overseas tour, and he was seen on camera with his eyes closed. It appears that perhaps he was dozing."

"And, in these settings, cameras are all around, and the camera caught President Biden, who turned 79 this month, for a period of time."

"And, you're right," ODonnell continued. "These can be embarrassing situations. You have the contrast of leaders – including President Biden – calling for the urgency of these issues, addressing climate, and a moment like that in a session can be a political obstacle."

World leaders have gathered in Glasgow for the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties, known colloquially as COP26. The summit runs Oct. 31 through Nov. 12 2021.

The premise of the summit is to engage governments all over the world, while at the same time "joining forces with civil society, companies and people on the frontline of climate change to inspire climate action ahead of COP26."

Biden's apparent dozing off may well serve to reinforce the opinions of critics who feel that Biden is not lucid enough to lead the United States at this point. Many also feel that traveling around the world in jets in such numbers in the middle of a pandemic smacks of hypocrisy.
